Deathloop update adds cross-play and loads of new content

Deathloop is releasing today on PC Game Pass, which means now is the perfect time to check out the latest Deathloop update, even if you’ve never played our favorite game of 2021. Arriving alongside Deathloop’s Game Pass debut, the “Goldenloop” update adds a ton of new content to the FPS game, including a new weapon, a new enemy type, new abilities and trinkets, new secrets, and a brand new ending.
The Goldenloop update opens up cross-play for all platforms, so you can go head-to-head with gamers from the PSN, Xbox, Steam, Epic or Windows Store versions of the game if you choose. You can also limit your cross-play options to match only with players on the same platform or with players using the same type of controller.
There’s a new weapon to find called the HALPS prototype. It’s a powerful laser weapon that fires a continuous beam that you can bounce off turrets and security cameras. You must be careful, however, because a new enemy called the Paint Bomber will sprint right at you on sight and detonate their paint-filled explosive pack.
There is also a new ability to find. This ability is called Fugue, and you can think of it as a “confusion” spell. Enemies afflicted by Fugue become a little drunk (and therefore harmless) until the effect wears off. You can extend these effects by finding additional copies of the ability board and upgrading it.
While we’re on the subject, Juliana’s Make-Up ability now has been upgraded as well. Ensemble “allows her to target three NPCs with this ability,” Mend “causes her to regenerate health when the ability is active on an NPC,” Expose “marks Colt when an NPC targeted by Make-Up sees him or dies,” and “Incognito” converts the use of Make-Up when Damage taken is converted to energy.
Goldenloop also adds 19 new trinkets to mix and match, all of which combine two abilities already present in Deathloop. So, for example, Wrecking Ball takes the faster movement of Sprinter and combines it with the Unstoppable Power trinket, which deals damage to enemies as you sprint into them.
Finally, developer Arkane Lyon says there are no new secrets to be found in Deathloop, and those secrets include a new “expansion” ending. You can read the full Deathloop patch notes on the official site. Check out our Deathloop review to see why we gave it a rare perfect score.
