Phoenix Suns owner suspended for racist behavior, recently claimed he was selling the team

“Phoenix Suns and Mercury owner Robert Sarver (pictured in 2019) was suspended and fined $10 million by the NBA last week after an investigation found him guilty of what the league calls “workplace misconduct and organizational deficiencies.” On Wednesday, Sarver announced plans to sell the team.
Robert Sarver, the principal owner of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, announced Wednesday that he plans to find new buyers for both teams. The move comes a week after he was suspended for one year and fined $10 million by the NBA for racist and sexist workplace conduct.
The NBA concluded through its own investigation that Sarver repeatedly used the N-word when paraphrasing others, made numerous sex-related comments in the workplace, commented on the appearance of female employees, and treated employees in a demeaning and harsh manner.
“Whatever I have done or can still do, nothing I have done or can still do is better than what I have said in the past,” Thurber said in a statement Wednesday, adding that Thurber’s 35 percent team equity is valued at $630 million.” For these reasons, we are beginning to look for a buyer for the Suns and Mercury.”
The 60-year-old also blamed the current culture for his failure to stay with the team after being forced to leave.
“As a person of faith, I believe in redemption and the path to forgiveness. I had hoped that the commissioner’s one-year suspension would be a time for me to focus, make amends, and remove personal controversy from the team that I and many fans love,” he wrote.
But in the current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that this is no longer possible.” What I have done, or what I still could have done, prevails over what I have said in the past.
Thurber added, “I have also chosen to sever ties with the team to avoid distractions.
