Tower of Fantasy F2P players are feeling left behind
F2P players of Tower of Fantasy are starting to feel like this MMO game wasn’t built for them. A recent spate of Reddit threads all have one thing in common – players are realizing that their F2P builds will eventually run out of energy. And it’s not just in the late-game co-op challenges, either. Some players found they even lacked the combat score rating to deal with roaming monsters and wildlife.
“The gap between whales and low spend/F2p is becoming wider and wider, and while I’ve always felt comfortable as a healer, every group I’ve joined lately has had DPS who do five times as much damage (or more) and heal me at the same time,” wrote one user.” Is anyone else starting to feel useless in group content?”
The way Fantasy Towers scales damage and enemy levels is partly responsible for this discrepancy. As some reviewers have pointed out, Tower of Fantasy measures enemy levels by your own – but your level has nothing to do with your combat score. You can level up to improve your combat score, but the most effective way to do that is to pull super rare characters and weapons – which, of course, costs money.

The gacha model in Tower of Fantasy is probably here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. HoYoverse’s structure – which, despite its flexibility, can still be surprisingly lucrative – has been there since the game’s inception, but it seems Hotta intends for Tower of Fantasy to be your usual gacha game, one that skews toward high-paying players.
