The Indian government has banned Battlegrounds Mobile India (commonly known as BGMI), which was banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000, after several Chinese apps, including TikTok and PUBG Mobile, were banned, as was Free Fire in the country. The Twitter user, who submitted the RTI earlier this month, also questioned whether Crafton attended a meeting with the government regarding the removal of the game. He also requested to know the final outcome of the meeting and what was discussed at the meeting. A few days after his question, the authorities responded to the user, confirming that MeitY had banned BGMI at the request of the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MHAs). In detailing the reason for the banning of the game, the authorities referred to data security, which was a matter of national security; the RTI response also confirmed that MeitY had a meeting with representatives of Krafton. It is stated that a meeting was held with the distributor of the game software, but it remains confidential under the RTI Law.
The response states that MeitY blocked the gaming application BGMI in accordance with the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000 and the Information Technology (Procedures and Safeguards for Blocking Public Access to Information Unions) Regulations 2009, based on a request received from the designated head of the Ministry of Interior The company said that it has blocked the gaming application BGMI.
In India, BGMI has been removed from the app store, but users can still reportedly play the game. However, no update has been provided by the developer. Crafton is said to be working on a service to bring the game back to users in the country. It is unknown if this game will be revived in India and how long it will take.
