Chainsaw Man Episode 2: Arrival In Tokyo

After confirming Pochita’s death, Denji is not happy that the woman treats him like a pet. When Denji arrives at the rest stop, he is short of money and asks the woman to pay for his meal. The woman gives Denji some clothes, and Denji develops a liking for her.

Denji explains his situation to the woman in detail. The woman tells Denji that she can sense with her great sense of smell that Pochita is alive. Denji is relieved and faints again.

Denji wakes up and feeds the woman, even though he can eat himself.

Makima tells Denji that there are over 1,000 devil hunters and civilians in Tokyo. She claims that Public Security has the best benefits and many paid vacations. Denji’s only thought is to get together with Makima.

At the office, Makima gives Denji a new uniform and introduces him to his new colleague, Aki Hayakawa. Denji goes along with Hayakawa, but is angry with her for not working with Makima. As if to appease Denji, Makima tells Denji that if he does well, they may work together someday. Hayakawa takes Denji to a nearby alley and beats him up. Hayakawa tells Denji that he should quit. Hayakawa tells Denji to quit. Denji has no real motivation for his work, and he thinks he will die like the rest of his colleagues.

However, Denji punches Hayakawa and throws jewelry at him. Denji tells Hayakawa that he does not mind dying in this job because he is enjoying and bettering his life under Makima. After defeating Hayakawa, the two report to Makima, and Denji vents his frustration with Hayakawa.

Makima explains to Hayakawa that Denji is a human-demon hybrid. Makima tells Denji and Hayakawa that if Denji tries to resign or is insubordinate, he will be punished like any other demon. Hayakawa and Denji reaffirm that they have permission to kill Denji if he tries to escape, and head for Hayakawa’s home. Hayakawa confirms that Makima is not a bad man for saving his life.

At Hayakawa’s house, Denji is absorbed in housework. After cleaning up, Hayakawa and Denji head to the scene of a demon attack at a house in eastern Nerima Ward. The police tell Denji and Hayakawa where the fiend is hiding and say they will handle it. Hayakawa explains to Denji what a demon is. He confirms that they are demons who manipulate human corpses.

When Denji asks if they are friends, Hayakawa confirms that the demons have distinctive heads. He then tells him that the demon controls the demon’s personality and orders him to kill the demon with the demon’s ability. Denji kills the demon with an axe, confusing Hayakawa. Denji explains that he wanted the demon to die painlessly. Hayakawa says that when Denji hunts the demon, he should abandon his sympathy for the demon.

Denji looks out the window and talks about how his life has become richer since he joined the Public Security Bureau. He feels something is missing and thinks about the differences in everyone’s goals. He thinks more about Makima and comes up with the goal of “wanting to touch women’s boobs”. Since Public Safety requires Devil Hunters to work in pairs on patrols and smaller missions, they report to Makima and assign Denji as their partner.

Power enters Makima’s office and opens the front door. Makima tells him that he is a demon and that he has been on Hayakawa’s team all along. He reiterates how important it is for these two not to screw up and sends them on their way.

Denzi and Power patrol the area from the rooftop, as Power’s Fiend traits can cause problems for pedestrians in the area. Denzi is willing to put up with Power’s crazy behavior to serve her own crazy purposes. Denzi and Power encounter two officers and present their public safety I.D. cards.

The episode ends with Power yelling in triumph as Denzi watches from above.
