Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is shutting down for next year
In a rather shocking announcement, Square Enix has decided to discontinue development of the mobile fighting game Final Fantasy 7: First Warrior. The title was announced in February 2021, marking the 25-year-old franchise’s entry into the world of upcoming fighting games. The First Warrior received a tremendous response to its beta test, with pre-registration opening shortly thereafter. In just four days, the game attracted more than 500,000 pre-registrations, and in 10 days, more than 1 million pre-registrations, with a final total of more than 2 million registrations by the time the game launched on November 17, 2021. And now, less than a year after its launch – a rather short period of time, especially for a live-service game – Square Enix has decided to shut it down.
